SCARLET MACAW (Ara macao)

$800.00

The Scarlet macaw (Ara macao) is one of the most iconic and vividly colored parrot species native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, including countries like Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Brazil. This large macaw is renowned for its striking plumage, which features bright red feathers covering most of its body, with yellow and blue on its wings and tail. Its bare white face is lined with small red feather lines.

Scarlet macaws inhabit lowland rainforests, often found in tall trees near rivers and other water sources. They are highly social birds, typically seen in pairs or small flocks. Their diet mainly consists of fruits, nuts, seeds, and occasionally insects and nectar. They are also known to eat clay from riverbanks, which is believed to help detoxify their diet.

While the Scarlet macaw is not currently considered endangered, its populations are under threat from habitat destruction, deforestation, and the illegal pet trade. Conservation efforts focus on protecting their natural habitats and implementing breeding programs to ensure their survival in the wild.
