RED-BELLIED MACAW (Orthopsittaca manilatus)

Original price was: $560.00.Current price is: $520.00.

The Red-bellied macaw (Orthopsittaca manilatus) is a small to medium-sized parrot native to the tropical regions of South America, including the Amazon Basin. It is named for the distinctive red patch on its lower belly. The rest of its plumage is predominantly green with a bluish tint on the wings and tail. It also has a bare facial patch of yellow skin around the eyes and base of the beak.

Red-bellied macaws inhabit lowland rainforests, swampy areas, and palm groves, where they are highly dependent on Mauritia palms for both nesting and food. Their diet mainly consists of the fruits and nuts of these palms. These macaws are highly social and often seen in flocks, sometimes comprising dozens of individuals.

Though not currently considered endangered, Red-bellied macaws face habitat destruction and are affected by the pet trade. Their reliance on specific palm species makes them vulnerable to changes in their environment. Conservation efforts focus on habitat preservation to ensure the survival of these specialized and vibrant birds.
