LEAR’S MACAW (Anodorhynchus leari)

$540.00

Lear’s macaw (Anodorhynchus leari), also known as the Indigo macaw, is a rare and striking parrot species native to a small area in northeastern Brazil. It is similar in appearance to the Hyacinth macaw but slightly smaller, with vibrant indigo-blue plumage and a distinctive yellow patch of skin at the base of its beak. These macaws inhabit dry areas known as caatinga, characterized by thorny vegetation and sandstone cliffs where they nest and roost. Their diet primarily consists of the nuts of licuri palms, which are crucial for their survival.

Lear’s macaw is classified as endangered due to habitat destruction, illegal trapping, and limited range. Conservation efforts, including habitat protection and breeding programs, have been implemented to help increase their population and protect this beautiful and unique species.
